Aliya Sayakova
Aliya Sayakova was born in Ufa in central Russia. She started
her mature studies in economic theory, which led to an interest in
Art auctions and their market mechanisms. She came to the the
UK in 2010 to do an MA at Warwick University under the joint
French IESA programme, and she matriculated in early 2012.
Her MA dissertation is the subject of this publication, entitled
The Role of New Media for Contemporary Art Production. What
her research revealed was the commodification of Contemporary
Art fostered by the advancement of New Media. She concludes
that whereas New Media was caught up in the energies released
by the revolutions against the status quo, and enhanced the
spread of the revolution generally, particularly through Street
Art, this societal subversion did not release new artistic images in
the purest sense. True art must be subversive, but it is at a more
subtle level than open revolution, and is based on more subtle
energies that have a broader and more long-lasting effect on the
development of civilization. On completion of her dissertation,
Aliya decided to pursue her artistic enquiries through internships,
first at Saatchi Gallery and then at Sotheby???s Auction House in
London. As an art critic, she has had her articles published in
various UK publications, and her first e-book is to be released in
2013 with Duckworth Publishing.
